Off-Road Capabilities of the Equinox: A Deep Dive
The new Chevy Equinox is a great family-friendly SUV for Ooltewah drives. It can also get you to some of your favorite wilderness destinations in a pinch. If you just look around Chattanooga and see the mountains, there are plenty of options for outdoor exploration in your Chevy Equinox. But what kind of rugged conditions can the Chevy Equinox handle? You’d be surprised.
Are you thinking about off-roading with an Equinox? Have you thought about the Chevy Equinox’s terrain handling? Find out more with our Chevy Equinox off-road review.
Off-Roading With the Equinox: Ground Clearance
Driving through Dalton is a breeze with the Chevy Equinox no matter what model year you own. A new vehicle has all of the latest tech, while a later-model certified pre-owned works just as well for daily drives, weekly errands, and weekend getaways.
All of the Chevy Equinox models have 7.6 inches of ground clearance. That’s a fairly standard number for most SUVs of the same size as the Equinox. However, off-road vehicles that specialize in tackling tough terrain have at least 8 inches of ground clearance, often 8.7 inches as a common figure. So, for the Equinox terrain handling, you might consider something different.
Off-Roading With the Equinox: AWD
Another facet of the Equinox’s terrain handling is all-wheel drive (AWD). Several trims of this compact SUV have AWD. This version of AWD is on the higher trims and generally works well for handling on wet pavement, snow-covered pavement, gravel, and dry compacted dirt. So, if the weather conditions are ideal and your off-road trails are on even ground without a lot of mud, the Chevy Equinox will perform adequately off the road. So, think about going down a driveway or perhaps managing your property.
Off-Road Review of a Chevy Equinox: Yay or Nay?
Off-roading with a Chevy Equinox is relatively safe if you need to. However, we don’t recommend rugged trails, deep mud, or trying to traverse trails covered with sticks and felled trees. The GPS navigation on your Equinox can point you to safe trails and off-roading if you want to have fun. But please try to avoid tough trails made for vehicles with off-roading capabilities.
