Your Chevrolet dashboard lights help you stay on top of maintenance, which includes the Chevy Service Tire Monitor System light. So what does this light indicate? It signals a tire issue requiring your immediate attention. Learn more about this system today to take even better care of your Chevy tires. And remember, our Service and Tire Centers are here whenever it’s time to rotate or replace your tires, respectively!

The Chevy Service Tire Monitor System, Explained

There are two types of tire monitoring systems, direct and indirect. The direct system features a wheel-mounted sensor that presses on the tire to read its current pressure. The indirect system uses the ABS sensor or another vehicle sensor to determine current tire pressure. Other sensors can also be used to obtain pressure readings.

If either of these systems senses a tire pressure issue, the Chevy Service Tire Monitor System light on your dashboard illuminates. You might also receive a tire pressure reading from your infotainment system.

A warning tells you to adjust the tire pressure as needed. However, if the light stays on despite altering the tire pressure, the sensors might require repositioning, especially if you routinely drive on bumpy roads in Ooltewah and the surrounding areas. Road dust and other contaminants can affect the indirect system as well. Should the light fail to turn off or the TPMS light flashes, the system requires professional servicing.
