The Duramax V8 engine is a turbo-diesel engine that is produced by DMAX, which was created by General Motors and Isuzu. It is the first high-pressure common rail, direct-injection powerplant to hit the automotive industry. It was first introduced in 2001, and since then it has become a prominent feature for Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. Not to mention, it gradually became more powerful over the years. Together, they created DMAX, which was the manufacturer for the V8 engine. This built a strong foundation for General Motors in the heavy duty pickup market and Isuzu strengthened its product lineup and gained access to General Motors resources. As of May 2022, DMAX is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors.
The Duramax V8 is still being manufactured in Moraine, Ohio. The production facility has a max capacity of 200,000 engines a year. Its process is a little unique as well. Every produced engine is "hot-tested", so every engine runs on a dyno before it's installed.
