Manufacturer of the Duramax V8 Engine

Partnership between GM and Isuzu

General Motors wanted to become a major player in heavy duty pickups. With powerhouses like Ford and Toyota, they decided to use the strengths of Isuzu's diesel engineering. Together, they created DMAX, which was the manufacturer for the V8 engine. This built a strong foundation for General Motors in the heavy duty pickup market and Isuzu strengthened its product lineup and gained access to General Motors resources. As of May 2022, DMAX is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors.

Manufacturing Process

The Duramax V8 is still being manufactured in Moraine, Ohio. The production facility has a max capacity of 200,000 engines a year. Its process is a little unique as well. Every produced engine is "hot-tested", so every engine runs on a dyno before it's installed. To be clear, quality assurance is guaranteed, so that your vehicle has the amazing performance it's supposed to have.
