Optional Engines

5.3-Liter EcoTec V-8

A 5.3-liter EcoTec V-8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque is available. You can select this motor with the WT, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, High Country, and LTZ trims. It can go 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. It gets 19 mpg on the highway with mud terrain tires.

3.0-Liter Duramax Turbo Diesel

You can also choose a 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel motor with 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. This option is most efficient, and it can get 23 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. With mud terrain tires, it gets 21 mpg in traffic and 23 mpg on the highway.

6.2-Liter Ecotec3 V-8

The 6.2-liter Ecotec3 V-8 engine offers 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It travels 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. You can select it with the RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2 trim levels.

Advanced Engine Technologies

The 2024 Silverado 1500’s engines come with variable valve timing and start-and-stop technology to improve performance and fuel efficiency.

The standard 2.7-liter motor uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and active fuel management. When your engine doesn’t need full power, this system deactivates half the cylinders and stops fuel delivery to them. A 10-speed, automatic, electronically controlled transmission with overdrive and tow/haul modes is available.

The V-8 and diesel motors have standard 10-speed transmissions and dynamic fuel management. A computer decides which cylinders are necessary for optimal performance and shuts down others to save fuel while providing plenty of power.

Towing and Payload Capacities

Your engine choice impacts the towing and payload capacities of the Silverado 1500 as well. The 2.7-liter motor can tow 9,500 pounds and haul 2,260 pounds. With the 5.3-liter engine, you can pull 11,300 pounds and carry 2,080 pounds. The 6.2-liter V-8 and the diesel engines can both tow 13,300 pounds.

The 6.2-liter engine can haul 1,980 pounds, and the diesel’s maximum payload capacity is 1,970 pounds. The best engine for towing and payload is the 6.2-liter V-8. It offers high performance, even when transporting heavy loads.

Comparing Engine Choices

The best choice for daily driving is the standard TurboMax engine or the diesel motor. The diesel motor is more efficient, but diesel fuel is usually more costly than regular gasoline. The powerful Ecotec3 V-8 is best for heavy-duty work and off-roading.
